What's New for 2021-22?

This is the image for the news article titled What's New for 2021-22?There are several changes at HHS for the 2021-22 school year including new courses and new faculty members.  We expect to return to "normal" after the pandemic with a few remaining healthy practices still in place (hand sanitizing stations, cleaning technician to sanitize frequently touched areas, and frequent reminders to students about healthy practices).

  • ACT Prep College Readiness Math:  This course will be taught by Dr. Kendal Shipley (founder of 36 University) and include the regular College Reading Math standards with a focus on increasing your ACT score.  Contact your counselor to schedule this course.
  • Psychology and AP Psychology will return to HHS beginning fall 2021.  These courses are taught by Mr. Jeremy Wynne.
  • Current Issues will return for fall 2021.  This course is taught by Mrs. Taylor (Cloyd) Watson.
  • Rachel Buys (soon to be Wilson) has been recommended to the Superintendent and Catoosa School Board to take an English teaching position at HHS.  Rachel was a student teacher at HHS from Covenant College and taught two years at a private school in New Jersey.
  • Stephen Gaylor comes to HHS from Ringgold Middle to teach special education.  He was asst. baseball coach at HHS in 2021 and is a former professional baseball player.  He earned a B.S. at Berry College.
  • Madison Hobbs (HHS Class of 2015) will teach Science.  She has a B.S. in Chemistry from Dalton State and has been working as a Phlebotomist for several years.
  • Tony McAllister comes to HHS from Gordon Lee Middle, and he will teach special education and join the girls basketball staff as asst. coach.  Coach McAllister has 14 years of teaching experience.  He earned his B.S. from Dalton State.
  • Hannah Oliver (HHS Class of 2015) will teach English.  She earned her B.S. at Kennesaw State and taught at Dalton High last year.
  • Grayson Parker (HHS Class of 2015) will move from her position as media center paraprofessional to teach English and Drama.
  • Kara Patrick is our new graphic design teacher.  She has a B.A. in Graphic Design from UTC and has been working as a designer for the past 5 years.
  • Hillary Wilson will teach scienceShe comes to HHS from Lassiter High School where she has taught for the past 8 years.  She holds a B.A. in Biology, an M.Ed. in Instructional and Curriculum, an Ed. S in Instructional Technology and is working on her Ed.D.
  • Several faculty members retired, resigned or transferred to another school including Mike Buckler (retired), Katie Byrd (moved), Chuck Janow (resigned), Jake Ledbetter (Silverdale Academy), Michael Moore (Lakeside High School), Rachel Murray (media specialist at Battlefield Elementary), Amber Schmitz (Catoosa Online Academy).
  • The USDA will provide FREE breakfast and lunch to all students during the 2021-22 school year.  There will be a charge for any extras.
  • We will resume college visit days for juniors and seniors.  Click here for more information.

  • Absences from school will once again require a parent note (up to 3 per 9 weeks) or doctor's note to be excused.  Notes must be turned in to Mrs. Lones, attendance clerk, in the main office.
  • Exemptions from final exams will once again be based on grades and number of unexcused absences.  See the student handbook for more information.
