FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

If I choose distance learning, can I still participate in after school extra-curricular activities?  Yes

If I come to school in person, will I have to wear a mask?  Sometimes.  Masks will be required on school buses, in hallways, and in some classrooms where distance learning is not possible or where students or faculty may be at higher risk.

Can I still be in band if I choose distance learning?  Yes, however you must attend band class in person in addition to after school practices .  To do this, you would need to provide your own transportation.  You would check into school for band class, check out after band class, then return for after school practice.

If I choose distance learning, can I change my mind and switch to in person classes?  No, you must make a commitment for the fall semester to take distance learning or in person classes.  You can return to in person classes for the spring semester beginning January, 2021 if you choose.

If I take distance learning classes, can I come to school for lunch, to visit, or to hang out with friends?  No.  You should not be on campus during the school day unless you are meeting with a staff member in the main office or counseling office.

How will in person learning be different in the fall?  Students will attend class in person 2 days a week (last name A-J on Monday and Tuesday, last name K-Z on Thursday and Friday) and complete assignments through Google Classroom 3 days a week.  Masks are strongly recommended, social distancing will be encouraged, class changes and lunch procedures may be adjusted to encourage social distancing.  Class size should be much smaller.  There will be more cleaning and disinfecting during the school day.  We will not be able to have large group assemblies or pep rallies when we first reopen.  There will be no field trips initially.  Students will not use hallway lockers in the fall.

If I choose distance learning, can I still participate in Work Based Learning or Dual Enrollment programs?  Yes

Can I be successful in APEX classes?  Students who are self-starters, independent learners, and motivated to learn are typically very successful in APEX classes.  Students who are reluctant learners, procrastinate or need frequent prompting are not typically very successful in APEX classes.

Can I take Honors level or AP class through APEX?
Some Honors level and AP classes are available in APEX.  Check the course catalog for APEX course offerings.  There are some additional classes available through Florida Virtual School at no cost to students.

Should I take foreign language classes through APEX?  It depends.  There will be no speaking component with APEX foreign language classes, so you will not get the same learning experience.  If you decide to take a foreign language class through APEX, then you need to plan to take 2 classes of the same foreign language to meet the admission requirement of some colleges.  Taking Spanish I in APEX would not prepare you for success in Spanish II in person.
